Honours: visual communication and politics
I’ve been looking into how visual communication can be employed to create/increase political engagement. How can it be used to breathe life into something that appears to be so boring?!
While there isn’t exactly anything visual to show for Honours just yet, there has been a huge amount of thinking going on, and an incredible amount of inspiration!
I’ve been looking into how visual communication can be employed to create/increase political engagement. How can it be used to breathe life into something that appears to be so boring?!
I have no doubt graphic designers can employ their skills to achieve a great deal and really start to effect change!
My approach so far is to curate an exhibition. This way I can bring different aspects together, create a narrative but most importantly: encourage involvement. There will be a series of pieces, amongst the exhibition’s collection, that I have created to encourage play and prompt thinking about certain situations such as the media’s bias, the censorship of political advertisements and allocation of funding, the potent impact of social media…
We shall see how it keeps developing.
